The Races in a Nutshell

Here are brief descriptions of each of the races for $2,250 and the seven cups. Regulations are prescribed by the American Tower Boat Association and the Pittsburgh Regatta Association. All entrants rare In all heats of their classes. Prizes to winners of each heat in each class are: first, $50: second, $10; third, $30; fourth, $20; fifth, $10—a total of $150 per heat in each class. To determine the final winner In each class, a boat’s points from each beat are added, and the boat with the highest total wins the cup in each class. AH boats are Inboards.

A $100 bonus will be paid for new and final world’s records.

Steel Cup Race

Open to all classes of boats, regardless of size or power. Three 15 mile heats, events Nos. 1. 7 and 13. Tach heat consists of six laps. The first heat starts at 12:05 p. m., the second, at 1:45 p. m., the third at 3:25 p. m. Boats in this race will he identified by the letter G or U on their hulls. All boats in this race must be capable of at Ieast 65 miles per hour. Boats of other classes are permitted to enter.

Rust Heinz Memorial Cup Race

Open to 48 cubic Inch hydroplanes. Two five mile heats, events Nos. 2 and 8. The first heat starts at 12:25 p. m., the second at 2:05 p. m. Boats in this race must be at least nine feet long, with a piston displacement no greater than 48 cubic inches. Power plants may cost not more than $350. Boats in this class will be identified by the letter Y on their hulls.

Motor Root Sales and Service Trophy

Open to 48 cubic Inch runabouts. Boats In this class will run with thosp in the Rust Heinz Memorial Cup heats, the times bring kepi separate from the 48 cubic inch hydroplanes • by the timers and judges. Boats in this class must be at least nine feet long and four feet wide. Power plants may cost no more than $350 and have a piston displacement no greater than 48 cubic Inches. Boats in this class will be identified by the letter Z on their hulls.

Glass Cup Race

Open only to 135 cubic Inch hydroplanes. Two five mile heats, events 3 and 9. The first beat starts at 12:40 p. m., the second at 2:20 p. m. Boats in this class must, be powered by engines of not more than 135 cubic inches of piston displacement with internal combustion motors of the four-cylinder type. Cost of the power plant must not exceed $1,000 and the boat must be at least 13 fpet, six inches long. Boats in this class will be identified by the letter A on their hulls.

Koppers Cup Race

Open only to 225 cubic inch hydroplanes in Division II. Two five mile heats, events 4 and 10. The first heat starts at 12:55 p. m., the second at 2:35 p. m. Boats in this class must be powered by engines of not more than 225 cubic inches of piston displacement. Price of the power plant must not be over $600. The boat must not be less than 16 feet long. Boats in this class will be identified by the letter N on their hulls.

Rodgers Gold Cup Race

Open only to 225 cubic inch hydroplanes In Division I. The two five mile heats, events 5 and 11. The first heat starts at 1:10 p m, the second at 2:50 p. m. Boats in this class must be powered by engines of not more than 266 cubic Inches of piston displacement. The power plant may not cost more than $1,250 and the boat must be at least 16 feet long with at least one watertight bulkhead. Boats In this class will be identified by the letter F on their hulls.

Alcoa Aluminum Race Cup

Open only to boats whose power plants have a piston displacement no greater than 427.161 cubic Inches. Two 10 mile heats. The first starts at 1:25 p. m., the second at 3:25 p. m. Boats in this class must have engines costing no more than $2,000 for unsupercharged engines and $2,500 for supercharged engines. Boats must be at least 19 feet long and have underwater screw type propellors. They will be identified by the letter H on their hulls.
